About David Shim

My biggest claim to fame is that I was the youngest investment advisor (stockbroker) in the nation at the age of 17.  Interesting side story, I needed to get emancipated from parents, so that I could be considered legally an adult, and obtain my licenses.  The judge said it was the best reason for an emancipation he ever heard of.

I started buying and selling stocks around 13 if I remember correctly.  I used to call my broker 5 times a day asking for stock quotes with a $500 account, I don’t know how or why they dealt with me.  Funny part was that I would have to get my mom on the phone to confirm that she wanted to make the trade since it was a custodian account.

By the time I was 18, I was head trader at Block Trading Seattle.  After over a year trading full time, while going to high school, I decided to turn in my keyboard for a college education.

While in college I started two internet start-ups, one sold on eBay (note not to eBay, but on eBay, it was crazy time) and the other flamed out with all the other content sites that relied on an advertising business model.  After college I bounced around Boise and Boston trading for two hedge funds before I returned to Seattle.

While in Seattle I landed a job at Avenue A (interactive ad agency) and worked there for 3 years.  I was known as the David of David’s Bridal (it was one of the accounts I was working on).  In my 3 years at AVEA, I moved from the client service side of the business to the business intelligence group.  After a year in the business intelligence group I was recruited over to Farecast.

While at Farecast, I was the Director of Marketing, responsible for the monetization strategy, SEO, SEM, email, business development, and ad sales.  After 2 great years at Farecast, I’m made the move to San Francisco where I’m currently the Director of Quantcast Marketer at Quantcast.
